Cellular junctions in health and disease
The Smyth laboratory investigates the formation of cellular junctions, which regulate electrical impulses in the heart and maintain homeostasis in human tissues. Pathological alterations in these junctions can lead to sudden cardiac death, are involved in metastatic cancer progression, and contribute to viral spread during infection.
