Tackling antibiotic resistance
The Lam lab wants to understand how pathogenic bacteria employ virulence mechanisms to interact with their hosts and will develop innovative approaches that specifically target these mechanisms to disarm pathogens or target the interaction between the host and pathogens to bolster the host defense. The lab is particularly interested in Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an ESKAPE pathogen that frequently “escapes” antimicrobial drugs and is one of the most common causes of health care-associated infections worldwide.
