Flavonoids are specialized plant metabolites that have potent physiological activities, both in plants and in other organisms, including humans. The Winkel laboratory has performed ground-breaking work in characterizing the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway, using Arabidopsis thaliana as model organism. Current work uses cryo-EM and proteomics to study dynamic multi-enzyme complexes involved in flavonoid biosynthesis and explores the links between flavonoids and the circadian clock in plants.
